Tangerang, October 9, 2024 – President Joko Widodo officially opened the 39th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday, October 9. Indonesia’s largest international trade show, with the theme “Build Strong Connection with the Best of Indonesia,” will take place from October 9 to 12, 2024.

In his speech, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of seizing this opportunity to increase Indonesia’s exports, improve product quality, and expand market reach globally. “We must take advantage of this momentum to drive higher export growth, enhance the quality and competitiveness of our products, and reach broader markets,” said the President.

Increase in International Buyer Participation

Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan reported that TEI 2024 has received an overwhelmingly positive response from international buyers. A total of 6,647 foreign buyers have committed to attending, marking a 124.4% increase compared to the 2,961 buyers in 2023. More than 60% of these buyers are from non-traditional markets, with the remaining 39.43% from traditional markets.

“We express our gratitude for the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, and partner countries for their efforts in attracting international buyers,” said Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

USD 15 Billion Export Target

Minister Zulkifli Hasan also highlighted the significant contributions TEI has made to Indonesia’s economic growth over the past decade. In the first TEI under President Jokowi’s administration in 2014, the expo recorded transactions worth USD 1.42 billion. By 2023, that figure had skyrocketed to USD 30.5 billion.

He is optimistic that TEI 2024 will surpass last year’s achievements, with a targeted trade transaction value of USD 15 billion.

Exhibition Zones and Halal Ecosystem Innovations

TEI 2024 is divided into three main zones: Food, Beverage, and Agriculture; Manufacture; and Home Living, Fashion, and Services. For the first time, the Ministry of Trade is partnering with the Ministry of Religious Affairs to introduce a Halal Pavilion, showcasing Indonesia’s best halal ecosystem, in line with the growing global demand for halal products.

Primaniyarta and Primaduta Awards

As a form of appreciation for exporters, TEI will once again present the Primaniyarta Award to the top exporters and local leaders who have contributed to export growth. The Primaduta Award will also be given to loyal international buyers who have consistently partnered with Indonesian exporters and to overseas representatives who have played key roles in increasing non-oil and gas exports.
